The Science Huddle

I was born and raised in Lancaster, Ohio, a town of about 45,000 people just one hour from Columbus. It was a great place to grow up. I loved to read, swim and horseback ride. I realized quickly in high school that science was my love. I attended college at Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio and earned a degree in biology. I had a strong interest in aquatic ecology and began graduate work in entomology at the University of Georgia. It was then I realized that research wasn't my passion as I supported myself as a graduate teaching assistant.

I switched my focus and pursued my teaching credential and masters in secondary education from the University of New Mexico. I began my career as an educator teaching middle school integrated science at John Adams Middle School in Albuquerque. I moved to Denver in 2000 and began my Colorado teaching adventure at Chaparral High School in Parker. This is my 19th year as educator. Teaching has allowed me to pursue all my interests and hobbies. I have taught science - biology, geology, genetics, and chemistry. I spent five years teaching my second love technology. I have ranged from multimedia topics such as computer animation, video production, desktop publishing and web design to STEM learning in an engineering classroom.
